Job Summary

Anokion is seeking an experienced and highly-motivated immunologist to lead an exceptional team of scientists and advance our proprietary immunomodulatory platform technologies in support of the company’s clinical goals.  The primary focus of this position will be to translate the findings of target pathway biology studies and pre-clinical models toward the development of immune assays that address clinical hypotheses. This role will be responsible for leading the development of translational PBMC-based clinical biomarker assays to support patient stratification and treatment response in immune therapy clinical trials. This individual should be a collaborative-minded, well-organized, and detail-oriented individual interested in contributing to excellent research science in an agile and dynamic team environment. The successful candidate will also provide immunology SME input into the writing and review of regulatory submissions, collaboration communications, and intellectual property filings.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead a team of talented scientists within a fast-paced and collaborative biotech environment to accomplish R&D objectives and to make valuable contributions to our innovative pipelines
  • Design and lead well-controlled experiments to develop clinical PBMC-based biomarker immunology assays, including antigen-specific stimulations, flow cytometry, ELISA, and ELISPOT
  • Serve as immunology subject matter expert for internal project teams and external engagements with CROs and collaborators
  • Ensure quality and integrity of data flow, analyses, scientific reporting, and record keeping
  • Manage collaborative relationships with project leads and key stakeholders to advance pipeline projects
  • Work with scientists to maintain standards for all laboratory records, internal reports, patents, and external communications.
  • Lead the preparation of scientific reports for internal and external communications, including intellectual property filings.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ph.D. in the domain of immunology, preferably with focus in immune tolerance, autoimmunity, or vaccines
  • 10+ years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical environment, with emphasis on translating biomarker discovery research to clinical assay development
  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing high-performing research teams
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive hands-on experience with human PBMC assays, including cell isolation, immune cell characterization, antigen-specific assays, flow cytometry, ELISA, and ELISPOT
  • Experience with analysis of next generation sequencing is a plus
  • Proven ability to think creatively and independently and proven ability to solve challenges as part of a cross-functional team. 
  • Experience in working with external collaborators and CROs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to support clear scientific reporting, documentation, and presentation of results to team members
